DELAWARE — Thirteen wrestlers from around the county stepped onto the mat at The Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center on Friday in hopes of advancing past opening day of the state tournament.

Eight girls did just that, bound for Saturday’s quarterfinal matches in hopes of either a state title or at least a placement match.

The wrestlers are divided by weight class below, along with a rundown on how they did, when their next bout is (if they advanced) and some action photos.

110 lbs.

Delaney Tackett, Orange vs. Presley Sandobal, Maysville

Presley Sandobal defeated Delaney Tackett by way of an 11-0 major decision. Tackett bounced back later in the day, pinning Charley Jones (New Richmond) at the 2:14 mark.

115 lbs.

Malaya DiMasso, Liberty vs. Kaylee Vera, Little Miami

Kaylee Vera established early dominance and did not let off the gas as she cruised to a 15-0 technical fall over Malaya DiMasso.

DiMasso lost by default to Gianna Sanfilippo (North Ridgeville) in the consolation bracket.

120 lbs.

Mackenzie Carder, Orange vs. Kayah Montague, St. Mary’s Memorial

Mackenzie Carder truly floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee. The Orange product soared to a 17-0 technical fall over Kayah Montague, keeping her hopes alive for a state title.

Skylar McCuen, Olentangy vs. Meredith Greenslade, Clyde

Clyde’s Meredith Greenslade grappled with Skylar McCuen for a while, but eventually pinned her at the 5:53 mark. McCuen’s tournament later came to an end after Kaylin Bradburn (Greenville) defeated her by a 10-5 decision.

125 lbs.

Sarah Amonette, Orange vs. Liberty Johnson, Clermont

Liberty Johnson swiftly took care of Sarah Amonette with a 15-3 major decision.

But Amonette reached Saturday’s action thanks to a 6-1 decision over Civil Pumphrey (Paulding).

130 lbs.

Lacie Knick, Orange vs. Makirah Hall, Lak. East

Orange wrestler Lacie Knick came out fast against Makirah Hall, and secured a pin at the 1:41 mark to keep her state title dreams alive.

Delaware Source’s team was unable to photograph Lacie Knick, but will have photos of her from Saturday’s matches.

135 lbs.

Chloe Tompkins, Orange vs. Skylar Hopstetter, Mapleton

Mapleton’s Skylar Hopstetter handed Chloe Tompkins a tough, 11-0 major decision in the first round. Tompkins ended up forfeiting against Audrey Whitener (Findlay) in the consolation bracket.

Katelyn Norris, Big Walnut vs. Auston Brown, United

Auston Brown pinned Katelyn Norris in 2:47. But Norris rebounded with authority to pin Brooklyn Hover (of Lakatoa West) in 1:45 to move on to Saturday.

140 lbs.

Alanna Smith, Orange vs. Paige Menough, Salem

After a lot of back and forth, Paige Menough pinned Alanna Smith at the 5:57 mark.

Things didn’t pan out for the Orange grappler in the consolation bracket either as she was pinned by Lillian Lampe (Norwood) in 2:25.

145 lbs.

Tara Davis, Orange vs. Annalise Rapp, Indian Lake

Orange grappler Tara Davis registered some early points, tacked on a few more, and then held off Annalise Rapp via a 7-3 decision. Tara Davis and her sister (see below) will continue wrestling Saturday.

155 lbs.

Tamia Davis, Orange vs. Cailyn Demagall, Columbia

Cailyn Demagall went down by decision to Orange’s Tamia Davis 9-5, allowing Tamia to join her sister in Saturday’s action.

170 lbs.

Evelyn Krauss, Hayes vs. Reghan Koch, Austintown Fitch

Reghan Koch moved quickly across the mat, pinning Evelyn Krauss in 1:17. Yet Krauss battled back to pin Ariana Espinosa-Snowden (of Fostoria) in 1:18.

That allowed Krauss to reach Day Two with some momentum.

190 lbs.

Abbey Enders, Liberty vs. Sophia Harris, Ben. Logan

Abbey Enders didn’t have the chance to get into a rhythm before Sophia Harris had her pinned. The Ben Logan prospect took the match in 58 seconds.

The Liberty grappler’s tournament ended in the next match as Evie Parmelee (Liberty-Benton) pinned Enders in 1:58.
