DELAWARE — It was a tough day for the wrestlers from the various Delaware County high schools.
Thirteen local boys took the mat for Day Two of the state wrestling tournament, with five of them competing in the quarterfinals and eight in the consolation bracket.
Three Liberty Patriots advanced to the semifinals, but didn’t make it any further. Sunday offers a shot at third place on the state podium for each.

Huggy Williams, Liberty — 144 lbs.
One of the best wrestler names in the tournament, Huggy Williams, took down Perrysburg’s Waylen Denkins 8-2 after the quarterfinal match went into a tiebreaker.
Unfortunately, Williams’ state title hopes ended in the semifinals. The Patriot took on Garrison Weisner (of Oregon Clay) and lost by a 10-3 decision.
Williams will wrestle in the consolation bracket quarterfinals on Sunday, with third place being the highest he could place.

Cash Clark, Berlin — 150 lbs.
Cash Clark fell to St. Edward’s Yung Driscoll by way of a 17-3 technical fall. Clark hung tough with the Eagle in the opening minutes, but time was not on his side as Driscoll got into a scoring rhythm.
The Berlin Bear seemed to run out of gas as his tournament came to a close in the consolation bracket. Clark lost by way of a 13-1 major decision to Cameron Plotts (of Massillon Perry).
Aiden Milam, Liberty — 150 lbs.
The Liberty Patriot bided his time in the quarterfinals and hung around with Sully Karmon (of Perrysburg) before ultimately pinning him in 5:47.
However, Milam’s tournament later came to an end, as he lost by way of a 16-0 technical fall to Kane Shawger (of St. Xavier) in the semifinals.
Like his Patriot teammate, Milam will wrestle in the consolation bracket quarterfinals on Sunday. Third is the highest he could place.

Dylan Frass, Liberty — 190 lbs.
Dylan Frass pinned Oregon Clay’s Carter Whaley in 2:21 to advance to the semifinals.
Frass then went toe-to-toe with Caige Horak (of Massillon Perry), where Horak pinned the Patriot in 2:21, ending his state title run.
Joining his two Liberty teammates, Frass will also wrestle in the consolation bracket quarterfinals on Sunday. He now hopes for a third-place finish, too.

Daniel Stephens, Olentangy — 285 lbs.
In what was a methodical match, Daniel Stephens couldn’t quite get enough points on the board nor keep Wadsworth’s Jake Earnest at bay.
Earnest sent Stephens to the consolation bracket by way of a 5-1 decision.
Stephens later took on Chandler Moore (of Trotwood-Madison) and lost a close match 1-0 by decision, ending his tournament.

- Maddux Nauman, Berlin: Lost to William Schork (of St. Edward) via a 14-11 decision.
- Finnegan Cox, Hayes: Lost to Gage Older (of Whitmer) via a 4-3 decision.
- Preston Schuler, Olentangy: Lost to Joel Brink (of Green) via a 4-1 decision.
- Landon Moses, Olentangy: Lost to Brennan Kicker (of Med. Highland) by way of a 2:11 pin.
- Chase Cone, Berlin: Lost to Tyler Rowles (of North Royalton) by a 6-1 decision.
- Jackson Lane, Liberty: Lost to James Moore (of Normandy) by way of a 60-second pin.
- Cooper Frye, Hayes: Lost to Drayston Martin (of Ashland) after a pin at 1:43.
