DELAWARE — Celebrate America 250 at Main Street Delaware’s May 1 First Friday by exploring interactive, hands-on STEAM experiments and creative activities inspired by the discoveries and innovations of American inventors.

All activities will take place in downtown Delaware, along Sandusky Street, from 6-9 p.m. Friday. Participation is free with no registration required.

This exciting evening is perfect for families, aspiring inventors, and curious minds who want to experience STEAM in action — while celebrating 250 years of American ingenuity.

As Delaware’s Community STEAM Event for the 2026 COSI Science Festival, the Delaware County District Library will pass out COSI Learning Lunchboxes to the first 400 children at the Bookmobile that evening. Learning Lunchboxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and children must be present with their adult to take a Lunchbox.

As always, many stores and restaurants will stay open late for this monthly First Friday celebration.

May’s First Friday is in partnership with the Delaware County District Library, Delaware Area Career Center, United Way of Delaware County, Unity Community Center, and the Friends of the Delaware County District Library as part of the 2026 COSI Science Festival. First Friday is also generously sponsored by Newman Roofing.

Also, mark your calendars for the 2026 Farmers’ Market. The market will kick off for the season on Saturday, May 23, from 9 a.m. to noon in downtown Delaware. The market continues every Saturday morning until Oct. 31. Come shop for fresh local fruits & vegetables, honey, meat, eggs, plants, handcrafted items, baked goods, and more.
