DELAWARE — It’s impossible to be bored in Delaware County this weekend with a wing festival, Passport to Powell, the annual Ohio Gourd Show and more.

First Friday in downtown Delaware
- When? Friday from 6-9 p.m.
- Where? Downtown Delaware on Sandusky Street
The theme of October’s First Friday event in downtown Delaware? Stop, drop and dance, celebrating Fire Prevention & Hispanic Heritage Month.
This monthly events shuts down Sandusky Street, allowing for vendors, local organizations and businesses to set up booths.
With this month’s theme, there will be City of Delaware Fire Department trucks and other rescue vehicles, fire prevention activities and demonstrations and local DJ Lani G will play Hispanic hits.
There will also be live music from Delaware Music Center’s Rock School.
Downtown businesses will also keep their stores open late for shopping.
And as a bonus, Delaware Source will have a specialty cocktail at Bandit’s Bar, which is free for paying Source members, or those who sign up that night.

The Ohio Gourd Show and Festival
- When? Friday from 12-5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Where? Delaware County Fairgrounds, 236 Pennsylvania Avenue, Delaware
This weekend is the 63rd annual Ohio Gourd Show and Festival.
The free-to-attend event is a showcase of all things gourd, including gourd art, gourd food, gourd workshops, gourd music, gourd costumes, gourd demonstrations and more.
Demonstrations include how to make earrings out of gourds, how to build a gourd-geous dragon and a showcase of instruments made with gourds.
And if you’re already a gourd crafter, you can enter the gourd pageant/ costume contest on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Fall Frolic for All
- When? Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Where? Groovy Plants Ranch, 4140 County Road 15, Marengo
If you’re ready to kick off your fall with some family-friendly fun, this event is for you.
There will be live music, a petting zoo, face painting, a large selection of pumpkins for picking.
Enjoy bites and drinks from Bushel & Bean, Tabouli Cafe and What The Fizz.
There will also be over 20 local vendors selling everything from clothing, art, chocolates and more.

Harvest Fair at Stratford Ecological Center
- When? Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Where? Stratford Ecological Center, 3083 Liberty Road, Delaware
One of Stratford Ecological Center’s biggest events of the year, the Harvest Fair invites kids of all ages to discover their inner farmer.
Activities include tractor rides, feeding the chickens, pressing fresh apple cider, walking the trails, shopping from local vendors and making seasonal crafts.
Admission is $5 per person, and free for kids under the age of 2.

Sunbury’s Smokin’ Hot Wing and Music Festival
- When? Saturday, 12-9 p.m.
- Where? Freedom Park, 830 State Route 61 North, Sunbury
Wing lovers, this one is for you.
Presented by the Smokin’ Hot Hearts Foundation LLC, Sunbury is hosting the fourth annual wing and music festival.
There will be live music, lots of wings and a large screen showing the Ohio State University vs. the Iowa Hawkeyes game.
Admission is $15, and veterans and kids 12 and under get in for free.
Proceeds benefit the Ohio Fallen Heroes Memorial, a nonprofit dedicated to remember fallen heroes who fought against “the war on terrorism since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Proceeds also benefit the Smokin’ Hot Hearts Foundation LLC, a nonprofit providing local support to veterans, dog rescues, veteran memorials, according to its website.
The event also features food trucks, beer stations, a kids zone with bouncy houses and a wing cooking competition where teams go head-to-head for a $1,000 grand prize.
The winner will be determined by a panel of judges composed of local chefs and wing enthusiasts.
Attendees can also register to enter the wing-eating competition and a bobbing for wings event.

Passport to Powell
- When? Sunday, 5-8 p.m.
- Where? Downtown Powell, 47 Hall St.
Are you looking to get a taste of different cultures without traveling thousands of miles to do so?
Passport to Powell features multicultural performances, food trucks featuring global flavors and local non-profit groups showcasing their missions.
The free event includes performances from Mahana Polynesian Dancers, Dublin Taiko Drummers, Latidos de mi Tierra, MegaKick Demo Team and Diwali Celebration with the Federation of Indian Associations.
