DELAWARE — I love cars. From the body lines of Mopar cruisers to International pickups with character-filled patina exteriors, I love them all.
It might sound like I’m talking another language, but motorheads know what I mean. Put simply, the 32nd annual Delaware Charity Car Show on Saturday had an unbelievable amount of cool cars.
The show spanned across Sandusky Street (and several side streets) from the old courthouse all the way down to the Donatos Pizza past Ohio Wesleyan’s campus.
Delaware Source works out of COhatch in Delaware and Laurie Lendon serves as the collaborative office’s “den mother” as I say. She overheard one day how much I loved cars and told me I should check out Saturday’s show.
What I didn’t expect was her to later ask me to be her delegate judge and select the best late model 2020-2027 car. I happily accepted and picked a sweet black and red 2024 Ford Mustang GT Coyote after strolling through the whole show.
But my overall favorite car was actually the last one I found in my travels around downtown — an incredible red and navy blue 1965 Ford Falcon.
I was searching for a Falcon all afternoon, a car I’ve always felt is an underrated and underappreciated compact Ford. Tucked away behind a massive, and obviously very fast on water, trailered boat sat the Falcon in front of Bun’s Restaurant and Bar.
But enough about what I liked. The beautiful thing about cars is that there’s something for everyone. And if there’s not, Lord knows someone will custom make the vision they have in their head.
You might love cars but despise the Ford Falcon, that’s totally fine. The ability to just admire the hard work, listen to owners’ fascinating stories and appreciate the pure art behind these machines is what really matters.
Enjoy these amazing rides.
