DELAWARE — Target is coming to Trailhead Crossing.

GTZ Properties Managing Principal Mitch Goltz confirmed to Delaware Source Thursday that the retailer will be part of phase two of the development.

“So across the stream, there’ll be Target there and then it’s proposed residential to the north,” Goltz told Delaware Source after the groundbreaking of Trailhead Crossings phase one on Thursday morning.

Phase one encompasses a vacant lot of more than 10 acres in front of the Seattle House Apartments and across from City Barbeque on Sunbury Road.

Construction crews have not yet begun building the seven confirmed businesses slated for phase one.

Those are:

  • Chipotle
  • Chick-fil-A
  • Dunkin’ Donuts
  • Nothing Bundt Cakes
  • Pacific Dental
  • Take 5 Oil Change
  • A national daycare provider that has not yet been announced.

Additionally, there are even more building slots in phase one of the development that have not yet been filled with businesses, Goltz said.

He said those buildings will start to come up within the next few weeks.

“These retail tenants are looking to open some time in the spring, probably May,” Goltz said.

As for Target, Goltz said it likely won’t open until 2028 or 2029 because it’s a “much bigger project.”

The Target would sit directly to the east of the phase one development on a 16-acre parcel currently under the ownership of Nutter Farm Inc., according to the Delaware County Auditor’s website.

“The people that we’re bringing here have been voids in the market and the community. The area has been seeking these types of businesses, so we’re just really excited to be community-oriented and bring in people that serve those needs,” Goltz said.

Goltz also said the Chicago-based development company is working on other projects in the city and county, but he could not yet share specifics.

“We’re here for a long time,” he said.

Trailhead to add more business to already booming corridor

During Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony, Delaware City Manager Paul Brake said the Trailhead Crossings development comes on the heels of a business boom along Sunbury Road.

Brake said in just the last year, 16 businesses have already opened or will open soon, including a Chase bank, 7Brew, McDonald’s and the new Kroger that will host its grand opening on Friday, Oct. 2.

Goltz said the groundbreaking came after two years of work between GTZ Properties, the city, county and other partners.

“Here today marks a monumental step towards executing that vision with the kickoff of phase one of Trailhead Crossings Center, which in total will encompass over 50 acres of land,” Goltz said during the groundbreaking ceremony.

“Delaware County is on fire, and we are thrilled to be a big part of fanning the flames of growth and momentum in the corridor,” he said. “Once completed, our project will bring in over a dozen new businesses.”

Goltz said, in total, the project will bring in more than $100 million in new investment to the city.

Also with the development, GTZ will extend Biltmore Drive east to connect to the new businesses.
